چکیده
In a recent letter[1], Singh, Mobed and Papini (hereafter referred to as (I)) claim to show that the gravitaional field associated with the Lense-Thirring metric can distinguish between Dirac and Majorana neutrinos. According to these authors, the matrix element of the interaction Hamiltonian is significantly different, depending on the Dirac or Majorana nature of the neutrino. Here we point out that the treatment of Majorana neutrinos in (I) is not valid, due to an incorrect definition and construction of the spinor that corresponds to a Majorana particle. As a consequence, the results of this paper concerning Majorana neutrinos are not valid, and in particular the major claim stated above does not follow. The Majorana condition is a requirement on the fermion field operator ψ, viz., that it should be selfconjugate up to a phase factor ξ,

Can gravity distinguish between Dirac and Majorana neutrinos?
We show that spin-gravity interaction can distinguish between Dirac and Majorana neutrino wave packets propagating in a Lense-Thirring background. Using time-independent perturbation theory and the gravitational phase to generate a perturbation Hamiltonian with spin-gravity coupling, we show that the associated matrix element for the Majorana neutrino differs significantly from its Dirac counte...
متن کاملPseudo-dirac neutrinos: a challenge for neutrino telescopes.
Neutrinos may be pseudo-Dirac states, such that each generation is actually composed of two maximally mixed Majorana neutrinos separated by a tiny mass difference. The usual active neutrino oscillation phenomenology would be unaltered if the pseudo-Dirac splittings are deltam(2) less, similar 10(-12) eV(2); in addition, neutrinoless double beta decay would be highly suppressed. However, it may ...

If neutrino conversions within the Sun result in partial polarization of initial solar neutrino fluxes then a new opportunity to distinguish Majorana and Dirac neutrinos by measuring the differential ν e e-scattering cross section in solar neutrino detectors arises. The experiment like HELLAZ would be preferable in testing of recoil electron spectra differences initiated by Majorana and Dirac n...
متن کاملOn the possibility of distinguishing between Majorana and Dirac neutrinos
We clarify that one cannot distinguish between Majorana and Dirac neutrinos in the limit of vanishing neutrino mass. In particular we show, that the forward-backward asymmetry in the reaction e + e − → νν is the same for ν M and ν D , in contrast to recent claims made in the literature.
متن کاملDistinguishing between Dirac and Majorana neutrinos with two-particle interferometry.
Two-particle interferometry, a second-order interference effect, is explored as another possible tool to distinguish between massive Dirac and Majorana neutrinos. A simple theoretical framework is discussed in the context of several gedanken experiments. The method can in principle provide both the mass scale and the quantum nature of the neutrino for a certain class of incoherent left-handed s...
